Crystal Lake vote

In Crystal Lake tonight the local Park District board is preparing to take another vote to see if they will allow the Gay Games rowing competition to be held in the actual Crystal Lake. There was a previous vote taken, but it ended in a tie. Tonights tie-breaker will consist of five voters, one of whom was on vacation when the first vote was held.

It was refreshing to see my boss, Tracy Baim, quoted in todays Tribune:

[Gay Games] Organizers don’t look at a tie vote as evidence that Crystal Lake is a close-minded community, Baim said, adding, “We have people who are anti-gay in the city of Chicago.”

Amen sister.  It’ll be sad if people around the world don’t get the chance to see Crystal Lake, but I won’t be mad about it if they don’t.  It sucks that it’s appearing as a hot button anti-gay item, because in reality I don’t think it is.  But the media, as usual, blows things up into balloons that pop with the slightest nudge.
