why I love podcasting

In St. Louis, a radio host made a racial slur against Cuntaleeza Rice on the air. It was claimed to be accidental, and he immediately apologized, but he was nonetheless fired.

It doesn’t matter what he said. It doesn’t matter that he apologized. What matters is that he was fired for saying something on the radio. How insanely stupid is that?

Now I assure you dear readers, I know what I’m talking about. I work on the radio. I realize there are rules. And I know how it can be when you are trying to say one thing, and another slips out. But this was his career. And they ended it because he made a mistake.

I’m not defending him. But I do want to repeat how awful radio is and how bizarre the medium has become. There are very few companies who own the airwaves these days. In the Chicago market alone it’s split between mostly two corporations.

This is where Podcasting shines. I can say whatever I want, whenever I want, and if you don’t like me, tough shit.

long live the podcast!
