After much fear about how my dell wireless card might be hosed and turribly corrupted, it wasn’t. I had the Airport Extreme setup to only authorize specific adapters, based on MAC address.

I added my Dell MAC address, bounced the Extreme, and ba-dah-bing, it WORKED!

Not only do you have to have a password, you have to have an authorized MAC address.
