comin’ down the home stretch
Last night in a fit of sleeplessness I decided to finally take the time to edit my New Mexico footage and photographs. Cropping, trimming, adjusting, and timing took me a couple hours and the final product should be ready in the next day or so. I looked at the rush I completed this morning and I like it, but it needs tweaked.
Part of me hates being so anal about my videos. I trace it back to my tv production class in high school. My teacher always told us that the eyes should know what is going on as quickly as possible, but if they have to absorb something important, give them a few seconds.
So each time I’m watching a cut, a fade, a title slate, or anything else, I’m trying to pay close attention to the timing. iMovie ain’t the greatest tool for such things, and I hope to soon move to Final Cut for the polish I need on my videos.
iMovie IS great for dealing with photographs. The built in Ken-Burns effect is stellar and the tools to edit it are sweet. Importing video is simple and layering audio is a breeze as well. What it doesn’t have is the ability to rip out the audio from a clip and use it. Or it may do that but I don’t know how. The Final Cut time line is much easier to work with when doing that.
And the HV20 footage is breath taking. Really good stuff. I am happy as a clam with my purchase but I should have used my wireless mic more because there is some wind I couldn’t get away from.
So, if you’re not subscribed, subscribe to radiopeter in iTunes and hold on. The 16+ minute ‘movie’ of my trip to New Mexico is on its way.
