success and laughter
I finished with my first session of Greek classes last night. I originally intended to take the five week extension of them but with my schedule for the next month or so, it’s just too hectic. I could at best make three of the five, but I’d rather not commit to the dates.
So until September, I won’t be taking Greek. Not a bad thing really because I need to build my vocabulary. Tenses, declinations, conjugations are all easy in my head because many of them just sound right when you do them properly. Buy my vocabulary sucks. I’m certain my house will turn into flashcard central.
This first set of classes, however, has set my mind back in Greek mode. In the way that we all mumble in our heads on a daily basis, I’m trying to mumble in my head in Greek. And Japanese. And Spanish. All the time. Switching back and forth is getting a bit easier, but there are some words across the three that are the same, but have completely different meanings. The mere fact that I can even conceptualize that means these classes have been an extreme success, and I’m looking forward to more.

I’ve been reading L’imitation of Life, a script that David mailed me and I keep giggling about it. NetFlix is sending me a copy of Imitation of Life the 1959 Lana Turner remake which I think I last saw on VHS when I was young and hopped up on goofballs.
Naturally, L’imitation is a parody of the film, but I want to refresh my memory and see what sort of mannerisms I can steal adapt for the character of Suzie, who was played by Sandra Dee, the ingénue extraordinare, in the film.
Ingénue I am not. Especially not when my friends call me Samantha. Therein lies the challenge.
There is something very evocative about reading a script for the first time. It’s sort of like reading a good book, except my imagination thrashes wildly in every direction when I’m reading. I tend to get very spatial when I’m reading a script, trying to pick out the physicality of the show. What would that line look like on stage? How would that joke be delivered best? Physically, what would that stage note turn into?
There are some hilarious moments in the script that I really do hope see the light of day. Plus, if I do actually someday get to stage this script, it’ll be me in drag. *excited-giggle*

You are a little too flawless for words.
I mean, I’m a Kinsey 6 and I wanna do that girl up there. Nice!

Oh stop it. I mean… do continue. I mean… let’s talk about you. What do YOU think of ME?
