Couldn’t resist sharing these lyrics, which sum up my life. The writers, the husband and wife powerhouse of Nikka Costa and Justin Mitchell Stanley, are obviously folks who’ve lived life, and if I ever meet them, I’ll probably cry Steel Magnolias style.
You know what I’m talking about. The graveyard scene. The one where M’Lynn is lamenting Shelby’s passing, and Clairee thrusts Ouiser forward saying “Hit this! Go ahead M’Lynn, slap her!” They break into laughter, diffusing the tense moment, and Truvy lays out the biggest pearl in the entire film:
Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.
Frustration, rage, fear, and the hope that things will get better, not because they’re awful now, but because better would be a good place to go. Those are the tears I’d cry if I met these folks.
Who else could possibly sum up my life in a song 3 minutes and 47 seconds long?
Someone For Everyone
Written by Nikka Costa and Justin Mitchell Stanley
from the album Pebble to a Perlwhere is my someone
who’ll always understand
the person who’d give everything
just to take my handwhat if I never feel it
what if I never know
and what if it just gets easier
to spend this life alonerolling with the punches
hope my black and blue don’t show
put the bright in my eyes
so no one ever knowshow I feel on rainy days
or what I’d do to have always
my hopes are almost suffocating
but inside I know there’ssomeone for everyone
there has got to be more
than just getting through the day
but I don’t want to settle
just to numb the pain awayI’m holdin’ out for everything
the obvious and in betweens
and some say pride lets heartache in
but inside I know there’ssomeone for everyone
